12 Karin Ström (SwedEN)

Karin Ström was born in Kristianstad, a small town in the south of Sweden. She always wanted to be a singer. At the age of 13 she started writing her first songs and dreamed about being the new Eva Dahlgren, a loved and respected Swedish singer/songwriter. But she kept it secret. 20 years old she moved to London, where she got signed to the Canadian record label Nettwerk which led her to relocate to Los Angeles. Here, she released a self titled five track EP (US, Canada, UK and Sweden) with lyrics in English. Then she got dropped and returned to Sweden and settled in Stockholm.

Back in Stockholm she wrote, produced and recorded the EP "Sneda Ögons EP" in the autumn of 2005, and released it on her own label Datadamen Records. Datadamen (originally Karin's DJ name) means Computer Lady, and this marked a change of Karin's sound from organic and guitarbased to electronic and computerized. She also switched languages and now sings in Swedish. The 24th of January 2007 Karin released her first full length album "En saga om en sten" - available on www.klicktrack.com and on iTunes. Physical copies are available in good record shops and via cdon.com, or for non-Europeans viawww.swedishmusicshop.com.

12 HEROINE SHEIKS

Journey to the End of the Knife is the Heroine Sheiks fourth album, having been preceded by Rape on the Installment Plan (2000), Siamese Pipe (2003), and Out of Aferinca (2006). This is the band's third line-up, with Shannon Selberg of the cows (1987-99) as founding and sole remaining original member.

The first two line-ups were based in New York, where the Cows unhinged midwestern sound (they were based in Minneapolis) was merged with an icier New York sound.

On Journey, the Heroine Sheiks have relocated to Minneapolis and reformed with an astounding array of talent from that city: Paul Sanders (Hammerhead), Jesse Kwakenat (Stnnng), Sarah Huska (Ouija Radio), and the amazing Bruce J. Wuollet (Themes). They have also reunited with legendary Amphetamine Reptile Records, home of the Cows and the Heroine Sheiks first single. The result is this recording, with its astonishing musical and lyrical assault.

And of course, the Heroine Sheiks spectacular and absolutely unique live shows are not to be missed. - Marion Kin
